ROUTE TO THE HILLS

CLIENT: MALVERN HILLS DISTRICT COUNCIL

Our townscape scheme for Malvern Hills District Council’s “Route to the Hills” project was part of their securing a grant of just under half a million pounds, and we joined the team to deliver on the capital elements of the scheme.

The aim was to build on an already distinctive townscape with its mainly Victorian feel, to establish a new and individual - even quirky - style for the town. Even for seasoned interpreters used to uncovering great stories there is a lot to celebrate in Malvern, and the project reflected that with wide geographical coverage and a huge mix of installations. We commissioned bespoke illustration from the marvellous Chichi Parish to inform the design of graphics and artworks, and developed a collage style mixing archive imagery for a fun look based on historical sources. A network of wayfinding and information signage works with customised street furniture, art installations and scattered ‘can you find them all?’ pavement studs to engage tourists, residents and student’s in Malvern’s heritage.
