HEARTLANDS SITE SIGNAGE
CLIENT : STEPHEN FEBER LTD
Cornwall’s new nineteen-acre ‘cultural playground’ needed a signage approach with a suitably rugged and industrial vibe to reflect the site’s origins as a tin mine. With budgets tight relative to the site’s size and complexity, cost was also an issue. And galvanised steel was the answer.
Working as design subcontractors through Stephen Feber Limited, we developed a concept based on galvanising, either using this plain, robust material for signage structures, or wrapping it in transparent vinyl prints to use the grain as a backdrop to the graphics themselves. Apertures in the signage, inspired by the Men an Tol landmark at nearby Penwith, provide a ‘window onto the past’, framing the varied materials and surfaces used and preserved in this award-winning World Heritage Site gateway.
